Rod Millen's Retro Cruiser: A customized 1967 Toyota FJ-45 Land Cruiser Wagon
Front View. The Retro Cruiser was built to feature Toyota's Land Cruiser platform and U.S. legacy.
Retro Cruiser uses the same 230-horsepower, 4.7-liter 32-valve DOHC V8 as today's Land Cruisers
The stock V8 was set back 8 inches due to the FJ's smaller engine compartment.
The suspension is amazing and really works to support Retro Cruiser's progress over obstacles.
The front track is increased by 4 inches providing 30 percent more wheel travel. The rear suspension is independent and uses many production Land Cruiser components. The stock differential has been narrowed and on the outside end one finds stock brakes and hubs. New uprights were fabricated. The overall result is more than 12 inches of rear wheel travel.
Rod Millen custom machined the 17-inch billet wheels.
Retro Cruiser climbs over nearly anything in its path on BFGoodrich 35x12.50R17LT's.
This Cruiser has class and personality galore!
With custom Connolly leather seating and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, the Retro Cruiser's occupants are as cozy as they are secure; protected by the inclusion of a full interior rollcage.
There's nothing 'retro' about this instrument panel!
The Connolly leather wrapped dashboard completes this beautiful interior.
We especially appreciate the sensational glove box cover which oozes personality.
Retro Cruiser's four-speed automatic transmission, transfer case, and locking differentials, use technology from current day Land Cruisers.
Retro Cruiser is totally hand-built and there's nothing else quite like it on earth
It crawls hills, churns through muddy holes, blasts boulders, powers through sand and climbs out of ravines with the best 4x4s around.
Retro Cruiser was born out of a '67 Toyota FJ45 Land Cruiser Wagon.
According to Millen, the guiding principle was to create a concept vehicle with a retro/modern blend of luxury and power in a sport utility package. Rumor has it Millen mixed in a small part Hummer to go along with the large part Land Cruiser.
They say it's all in the details . . .
. . . and Retro Cruiser's got 'em! We love the body panels, tow hooks, bummers, and oh those beautiful lines.
Come see Retro Cruiser June 26, 2010 at Miller Motorsports Park or visit Larry H. Miller Toyota in Murray Utah to see it today.
